About
Gloria Barnett is a Science Education Consultant, author and ocean specialist with over 30 years of hands‑on experience exploring the world’s seas as a master scuba diver, sailor and underwater videographer.
Known by many schools as “The Weird Fish Lady” — a name affectionately earned through her engaging Ocean Adventure Days — Gloria has inspired thousands of children to look more closely at the natural world and ask deeper scientific questions. (For the record, the fish are weird. Gloria is not… although her family may debate that.)
Today, her work focuses on supporting primary schools to deliver high-quality, curriculum-aligned science, particularly in marine science, climate change and environmental education. Drawing on both classroom experience and real-world exploration, she bridges authentic field knowledge with practical teaching strategies.
As an award-winning author, she has written a wide range of books, including:
- Accessible non-fiction guides on oceans and climate change
- Engaging environmental and adventure fiction for 8–13 year olds
- Inspiring early-years stories for children aged 3–6
A long-standing advocate for ocean conservation, Gloria combines scientific expertise with infectious enthusiasm. Whether delivering talks, consultancy, writing resources or supporting curriculum development, her mission remains the same:
To help the next generation understand, value and protect our planet — beginning with the ocean.
